- recovery drill/slice: paddle is set in the water at vertical, mid-thigh location, as it would be at the end of your stroke, the call SLICE! is made and you exit the water and rotate forward to slice your blade back into the water at the wet-start set point- buried to the little finger ready to pull
- set-to-set : just what it says- you snap to set stern calls "hit" -take a strong stroke, and snap back to set. the focus can be on the catch, and the exit and the recovery
- 10-tap set down/up : paddle 10 strokes- tap paddle on gunnel's, snap to set, wait for call: "hit!"; take 9 strokes, tap gunnels, snap to set, wait for call "hit!"; take 8 strokes... down to 1 then 1 again back up to 10. focus is on FOCUS and hitting together and making deliberate power strokes. FOCUS
- pull-push: starting in the wet-start set position- caller yells "pull!" a full stroke is taken- paddle stays in the water at the position at the end of the stroke ( bottom hand mid-thigh- sittingup striaght)- caller yells "push!" and the reverse rotation is done by pushing the water forward bringing paddler back to wet-start set position (paddle is never lifted out of the water)- repeat several times. Make sure you come back to the proper set position, and feel the resistance on the blade on the pull- the focus is on paddle position at the beginning and end of each stroke. (courtesy Right Angle Performance)
- roller coaster : 3-minute piece, starts with moderate rate for 20 strokes- immediately rate comes up for another 20 strokes; immediately rates comes down to power 20- up20-power20-up20-power20...focus is on transition and maintaining power thru the power20, and not rushing the strokers.
- zipper : whole boat does 10 stokes; then 1L;2R;3L;4R;5L;6R;7L;8R;9L:10R does 20 strokes; whole boat for 10, then other alternating side does 20, then whole boat for 10. (may repeat) Focus is on cross checking and timing for the alternate sides.
- front half/back half: whole boat for 10; front half for 20; whole boat for 10, back half for 20, whole boat 10. Focus is a strength piece and feel the resistance for the back half.
- whole boat (WB)/one bench/whole boat: just what it says- WB for 10, bench for 20; WB10; bench 20, ends with WB. Focus is strength and appreciation for your team mates.
- whole boat/quad/whole boat: just what it says- WB10- 20 for 2 benches or a quad.
